Bénin constitutional court reviews april presidential vote

The Constitutional Court of Bénin concluded a five-day workshop on Friday, July 17, in Agoué, dedicated to assessing the presidential election held on April 12, 2026.

During the session, members of the High Court reviewed the entire electoral process to pinpoint strengths, challenges, and areas requiring enhancement ahead of future polls. The closing ceremony was led by Vice President Nicolas Assogba, standing in for President Dorothé Sossa, who was absent.

In his address, Vice President Assogba praised the quality of the discussions and confirmed that the workshop’s goals had been fully met. He emphasized the critical role of evaluating practices to refine institutional operations, quoting management expert Peter Drucker: “What cannot be measured cannot be improved.”

The participants proposed several recommendations aimed at reinforcing electoral procedures and solidifying the Court’s legal precedents. Assogba also announced the upcoming establishment of a committee to review the workshop’s findings.

Once approved by the Court’s General Assembly, these recommendations will be incorporated into a new electoral procedures manual, serving as a benchmark for upcoming elections.
