The Algeria-Niger bilateral health partnership has taken a significant step forward during the second session of the Algeria-Niger Joint High Commission, held this week in Niamey. The meeting reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to deepening collaboration in the healthcare sector, with a focus on sustainable and mutually beneficial outcomes.

According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Health, the discussions were led by Algeria’s Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudène, and his Nigerien counterpart, Garba Hakimi. The ministers highlighted their shared vision to strengthen bilateral cooperation in healthcare, emphasizing the strong historical and fraternal ties between the two countries.

Key priorities in medical and paramedical collaboration

The talks covered critical areas of cooperation, including:

  • Advancing joint medical and paramedical initiatives

  • Expanding cooperation in advanced medical fields, such as kidney transplants

Both countries agreed to promote hospital twinning projects and support the development of health infrastructure. A key focus is on preventive healthcare and combating regionally spreading diseases, including the establishment of a tropical disease surveillance center in Tamanrasset.

Digital transformation in healthcare

The ministers also underscored the importance of integrating digital solutions to enhance health system governance and service efficiency. This includes modernizing health information systems to improve data-driven decision-making.
